Donna Barber

Executive Director & Co-Founder

Donna Barber, a native Philadelphian, has served as an educator, trainer and coach and program leader for more than 30 years. In Philadelphia and Atlanta, she worked to create and lead schools and programs that developed spirit-led, socially aware, community-minded leaders.  Donna has served churches, schools, universities and non-profits.  She holds degrees in Communications and Urban Teacher Leadership and has provided trainings and coaching for national organizations including CCDA, DeVos Urban Leadership Initiative, The Contingent as well as universities.  As a licensed minister, she has served the church as preacher and Elder Chair. Donna is the first African American to be elected to and to chair the David Douglas School Board, in Portland, Oregon and author of “Bread for the Resistance: 40 Devotions for Justice People.”  She resides in Portland, OR with her husband and Voices President, Leroy Barber, and together they have six children.”

Leroy Barber has dedicated over 30 years to living and working towards Dr. King’s “beloved community.”

From ministries to houseless families and children living on the street in Philadelphia to nonprofits, urban schools, neighborhood coffee shops and churches in Atlanta, Leroy starts projects that shape society. Leroy is an ordained pastor and church planter and has served as Executive Director, board member and board chair of a long list of national nonprofit organizations including Mission Year, Word Made Flesh, Simple Way, DOOR Atlanta, Missio Alliance, CCDA, Wesleyan Impact Partners. Leroy is an innovator, entrepreneur and lover of the arts.

Leroy is the former Director of Innovation for an Engaged Church of the Greater NW United Methodist Church, the current Executive Director of Neighborhood Economics, Co-Founder and President of the Voices Project and Adjunct professor at Multnomah University. Rev. Barber is a consultant, mentor, coach and pastor to many leaders and the author of several books including:

  • Everyday Missions: How Ordinary People Can Change the World (2012, Intervarsity Press)
  • Red, Brown, Yellow, Black and White: Who’s More Precious in His Sight? with Velma Maia Thomas, 2014, Faith Words/Hachette Book Group)

Leroy lives in Portland Oregon and has been married to his wife, Donna for more than 38 years. Together they have six children.
